Summary

I've been working in technology for 18 years. I have been obsessed with technology since I learned to spell the word computer. I've done work in most areas of network infrastructure and security: Help Desk, Desktop Engineering and Endpoint Security, Perimeter Security, WAN Design, Mobility, Wireless System Design, Engineering and tech support at a Ma and Pa ISP, to Director of IT and President of my own wireless and security company. I have been lucky enough to also be on the "other side of the table" and design solutions to help people in all of the above jobs not get paged at 3am. I have made sure to balance "vendor time" with "real engineer" time with "real manager and business leader" time.

My focus has always revolved around moving data either with or without wires and doing it securely. My passion has been associating that means to a real and quantifiable business end. Being from a long line of cops, my personal mission has been to do so with as many Public Safety, healthcare, and Public Security entities as I possibly can (to that end I volunteered as a Police Reserve Specialist in CyberForensics after being selected and vetted for the opportunity).

I don't believe that networks, firewalls, encryption, end point security, penetration testing, wires and antennas exist for me to build for the sake of building, but rather for the business that rides on top of them. Security is not for security's sake, but for the protections of intellectual property, personal information and public safety.

As a Solutions Consultant I can analyze security needs soup to nuts and bring the best solutions for a specific need to the table.

Why cyborg? I have an Advanced Bionics Neuromodulation implant, with...interesting wireless security.

Sales and Marketing Coordinator at Imagina Internet Solutions

January 1996 - January 1998 (2 years 1 month)

I started out begging to mop the floor. I did my dad's political signage in PageMaker 1 on PC and wanted to go to a MAC shop. So they put me in charge of Windows. Two of the finest mentors of my life, Chad Beers and Ryan Dripps got me from green newb to building a DNS server. Before I knew how to spell DNS. We built it all without a manual under the vision of Bill May, Jim and Shannon Rudnick. By the end I did everything from Engineering and tech support to HR, front desk, Sales Engineering, Telco contracts. It was in 96. I worked nights doing support for pre-paid phone cards and exploring Lotus Notes. And print ques, and TCPIP, and excite.com. I had to spell rocky@mailexcite.com out a lot. We also tethered a Newton to a Startac to do Circuit Switched dial up with the guy that wrote Eudora for Newton. It was here I learned: The Socrastic Method, How to deal with angry clients, how to learn, and that a tech "figures it out" and an Engineer reads the friendly manual.

"To Whom It May Concern: I have had the priveledge of working with Rocky Gregory for the past 2 and a half years. His technical skills are unmatched and he has the ability to present to a novice as well as to the most accomplished IT Professionals. Rocky has a magnetic personality and an incredible sense of humor. More than that he knows his craft so well, he can present it to any audience in a manner that is clear and understandable. As a sales rep I often find myself trying to build the bridge from the CIO to the CFO. Rocky does this in such a way that it appears easy. As a sales professional I get credit for the deals that we win but, at times I feel like I am just along for the ride. I cannot recommend him highly enough. Yours Truly Tyler M Honzel 503.545.9179 tmhonzel@gmail.com"

— Tyler Honzel, Major Accounts Manager, Verizon Wireless, worked with Rocky at Verizon Wireless

"I have worked with Rocky for several years. I have found him very knowledgeable in a wide variety of areas surrounding IT. He has brought solutions to Evergreen that were exactly what we needed. He accomplished this by listening, yes actually listening, to us as we expressed our issues and provided us with options. Some of the options were standard “best practices” and others were way out of the box. Nevertheless, each was tailored to meet our needs. He takes the time to explain the “how and why” and does so without being condescending. (And with his knowledge, he has a right to be!) In the end, we have a solution that provides great value for the dollars spent and most important of all, makes me look good to my management. That is the mark of a good business partner and vendor. Rocky will be an outstanding asset to any organization wise enough to hire/partner with him. His addition to your team will immediately pay great dividends."

— Dennis Moxley, IT Director, Evergreen Healthcare Mgmt., was with another company when working with Rocky at Verizon Wireless

"Rocky is a delight to work with. From the perspective of a vendor, he was clear in his needs and actually worked WITH us to come up with the best possible solution. I could tell that he had the respect of his colleagues because of his technical knowledge, and he was well-liked for his easygoing manner and sense of humor."

— Jon Snyder, Systems Engineer, Cisco Systems, was a consultant or contractor to Rocky at CNF/Con-way

"Rocky is one of those leaders that one would say they would gladly "go into battle with blindfolded". He is a leader that can be trusted. Trusted to deliver on a high level deliverable of absolute importance; trusted to complete and deliver that deliverable in a manner that was not only excellent and on-time, but in a manner where he amazingly did not have to damage working relationships with *anyone* in the process. When Rocky was stolen away from us at Con-way, it was a sad but very expected by myself. His technical expertise is second-to-none, but is tempered with integrity and a REAL desire for those around him to succeed. And with that outlook, Rocky will simply continue succeeding. It's simple Supply and Demand . . . . . there's a plethora of IT Professionals out there - but the demand for uniquely qualified professionals like Rocky will always be high. For that reason, Rocky will always be a highly sought-after commodity. And for all of the above reasons, I would always highly recommend Rocky for any job he desired to attain."

— Bob Rice, Network Technician, Con-Way Transportation Services, worked with Rocky at CNF/Con-way

"Rocky brings not only a strong technical background as an IT professional but also brings other unique talents that are hard to find in a technical person. First, he truly understands the impact of what he does on the business and his customer. He is not satisfied until his user is satisfied. Secondly, Rocky is a problem solver. He will continue to pursue the problem until he finds a resolution. He is willing to seek additional expertise if necessary and is always creative in his thought process. His ability to effectively apply these softskills combined with his technical skills makes him far more valuable than the average IT professional. He is truly on of a kind that I gladly endorse."
